Vikings in 23rd Heading Into Final Round of NCAA Central Regional

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a 299 in the second round of the NCAA Central Regional and will enter the final round in 23rd place. The three-day, 54-hole event is taking place at the at the par-71, 7,420 yard Scarlet Course. The Vikings, who are playing in the regional for the second time in three seasons, tied for the 11th lowest round of the day to move up one slot in the team standings and moved up one spot from the opening round. "We had a better day today and were able to move up one spot," head coach Steve Weir said. "I am pleased with the way we were able to bounce back today and hopefully we can come back with another low round tomorrow." Junior Jake Scott had CSU's lowest round of the day, carding a two-over-par 73 with four birdies and six bogies. He entered the day tied for 106th place, but moved up and will enter the final round tied for 69th. Kyle Cobb and Kent Monas both shot three-over-par 74's in the second round as Monas used three birdies, while Cobb had 15 pars and just three bogies. Doug Barber and Patrick Elber both shot 78 in round two. For the second straight day, Wake Forest owns the team lead at the NCAA Central Regional Championships as the Demon Deacons finished with nine-over-par score of 577 through 36 holes while Alabama (587), Illinois (590), Penn State (590) and Eastern Kentucky (591) round out the top-five. Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State is the individual leader after recording a two-day total of 139 while Brendan Gielow, Dustin Groves and Webb Simpson - all of Wake Forest - are second, third and fourth, respectively.
