Former Viking Wrestler Anthony Coleman Named Assistant Coach
Aug. 8, 2007 CLEVELAND, Ohio - Anthony Coleman, a two-time NCAA qualifier as an undergraduate at Cleveland State, will return to his alma mater to serve as assistant wrestling coach for the 2007-08 season. CSU head coach Jack Effner made the announcement on Tuesday (Aug. 3). In addition, coach Effner named Chris Steadman to the graduate assistant position and Stevan Mladenovic to the volunteer position. "We're ready to start another chapter in CSU wrestling," Effner said. "I think we've got a nice, real solid staff that I feel confident can meet our student athlete's needs. I'm so excited and optimistic that we're going to reach our potential this year and get a lot of great things out of our athletes." Coleman finished his collegiate career in 2003-04 with an 87-59 (.600) record. An NCAA qualifier during both his junior (29-12, .700) and senior years (21-14, .600), he a four-year starter and an academic All-district honoree. Coleman spent the last two year accumulating coaching experience for Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina and with the CSU Vikings. During the 2005-06 season at Limestone, as an assistant coach, Coleman signed 15 student athletes and designed the "Mat Talk" seasonal newsletter which is still being used by the program today. He then joined the coaching staff as a graduate assistant with the Vikings and was successful in signing 12 student athletes and developed a Sports Psychology Training Manual for Wresting. "Anthony was a very solid performer while he was here," Effner said. "He excelled in the classroom and on the mat. He's very excited to be here and is a good addition to our staff." Steadman returns to his alma mater after serving as the head coach at Eastlake North High School for the last six years (2000-06). A three-year member of the varsity team at North, he was a two-time MVP and placed fifth at the Ohio State Tournament. He finished his high school career with a 91-22 (.810) record. Steadman started and wrestled in the EWL Championships (2000-01) before graduating from CSU with a teaching degree. Mladenovic will be volunteering his world experience to the already knowledgable staff. A four-time Yugoslavian national champion and a Junior World Silver Medalist in 1985, Mladenovic wrestled ten years for the Proleter European Club and placed first at 185 lbs. for two years. He wrestled two years at Cuyahoga Community College (1991-93) before graduating with an Associate of Science and working on an International Business degree at CSU. His coaching experience was gained as the assistant coach at Brecksville High School and an assistant coach of the National Junior Team Ohio (2006-07) in Greco Roman style. |
